I mailed my application around the 18th of dec. Will they email me when they process it or do something? Thanks.

My son has applied. He recently got a letter from "his" admissions person who introduced himself and wecomed questions. It implied that the app was complete, ( I am glad you have applied) but left enough doubt that my son did e-mail him to make sure everything was in and also added some new info. The guy e-mailed back confirming that everything was in place and that he had just read, or was just going to read, son's app. It seemed like a nice way to open up a conversation and become better known to his admissions person.

When did your son mail his app? I mailed mine out on around Dec. 18th (part I and II together) and they never said anything. I emailed them a week ago to see what was up and they wouldn't respond.

My daughter sent her application on 12/15 and got a similar letter from her admissions counsellor a couple of weeks after that.

I got my letter from my admissions counselor...abouttt 3-4 days ago

i just recently received a letter from the head of the English department and a course catalog in the mail. is this a normal thing to receive, i mean, do all students get these things? i just don't want to get excited about nothing.

I just got an e-mail from their int'l administrator (I met him last year when he came to Japan!) telling me that they have all my stuff.

I also recieved a course catelogue and an e-mail from the professor of singing and I was accepted. I would say your chances of being accepted are pretty good.

maybe they create a list of applicants they intend to accept (like you) which includes special applicants like children of alums? i'm a strong candidate, but definitely not someone they would accept right away. i think they sent me this information because my grandfather attended oberlin. without this legacy, i probably have about a 25% of being accepted. haha so basically i'm not getting in, which stinks because i love this school.

ummm Oberlin isn't as highly selective as most of the top liberal arts schools...i think their rate is like 48%...and they don't recruit heavily AT ALL so if you get something they really have taken an interest in you.

ummmm okay, thanks.

p.s. the acceptance rate is 32%

I checked my Princeton Review book and it is calculated 43% for students going in for the fall 2006

Oberlin's 2006 Common Data Set entry shows them admitting 34% of freshman applicants in 2006; a bit lower than this for transfers. This is completely consistent with their results of recent years. Your Princeton Review book data is whacked, sorry to say.

The Princeton Review website says the admission rate is 34%, with a 32% yield.
