Does Pass / No Pass look bad??

Hey guys I am a attending a CCC and currently taking math 43 (precalculus) which is the prereq to get into Calc 1A. I was wondering if it would look bad to admission if I took pass / no pass for this math course? I heard UC's only take two of the three pre calc classes as transferable units? I got A's on both Math 41 and 42.

Appreciate the help! Deadline to request pass/no pass is tomorrow!

I would definitely take it for a grade. I was contemplating taking multi-variable as pass or no pass, but I realize that declaring P/NP course, I would be less motivated to study. Get those 5 units of A’s from pre-cal, it’ll boost your gpa if you get a B.

I already have a 4.0 and my math 43 teacher is not very good. I feel like i will get a B in his class since he doesnt give partial credit on tests. I just want to know if it will look bad.

What is your major? How many P/NP classes have you taken already?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s fine to take P/NP for classes that are not a major pre-requisite class as long as you don’t exceed the maximum of 3 classes with P/NP. I’m an Economics major and I took Math 114 (not transferrable), Math 41, and Math 42 for P/NP and I got into UCB and UCLA. I took Math 43 and up for a grade though. Do you happen to go to De Anza by any chance? If so, I believe Math 41, Math 42, and Math 43 are all transferable but only Math 43 counts for the GE math requirement. The thing I would be worried about is if you want to apply to graduate school though. I’ve heard various things about how they view P/NP classes. They seem to look down on it.

Not sure if this helped you but I hope more people can give you input!

Yea I am currently going to De Anza lol. My major is accounting and I need Calc 1a and 1b for my major requirements. I don’t plan on going to graduate school as I don’t need that much for accounting. I thought only two of three of the precalculus series were transferable (I have not yet taken any pass/nopass)? Thanks for the reply, congratuations on getting into Berkeley! (Off topic but do you have any recommendations for extra curriculares / internships? :O)

I don’t know about UC’s, but some privates (USC), will consider a pass/no pass class as the lowest passing grade= C. It will effect your GPA accordingly.

^^^You can take more than three classes P/NP for the UCs as long as they don’t exceed 14 units total.

Sorry if this is hijacking, but do you know if it’s possible to choose not to transfer P/NP courses? I took 9 units worth of internship credit and I don’t want them counted in my unit cap…
