Let in anyone with less than stellar stats?

My interviewer talked a lot about how while Penn could stack their incoming class with the smartest students in the country, they like to have a little diversity. (I.E. lower stats but interesting ECs, etc).

Do you think there’s any truth to that?

Of course - a class of just 2300's+ would be pretty boring. Plus Penn is noted for its performing arts troupes - singing, dancing and whatnot, we need to keep them filled.

Yup, my friend got in with only a few AP classes, an SAT score in the 1300s--but ED and good essays.

what do you think low stats are? it's easier to answer you question that way.

collegenow-I should have clarified. Low stats meaning SATs only slightly above the 2000 mark, GPA around 3.7, ACT of 30.

Yes many get in with stats in that range each year. Though in the minority it is not uncommon. There are even two or three within Wharton who got in with stats in that range ED.

Let me clarify, 2 or 3 on CC, not total.

i don't know, maybe my standards are low (or my stats are low), but i don't think those stats are that low. i guess they are very low compared to the average.

*I meant low stats compared to Penns averages.

yes i know someone who got in with a 1050 a few years ago

Yeah my SAT math is only 600, which is terrible for Wharton, but ECs are good and my verbal and writing are fine, so hoping it works out.

i knew a guy who is a sophomore who had a 1310, eclectic music player, but thats about it. He did ED, i'm pretty sure.

his father did own like 5 million dollars worth of a hospital clinic, but I don't his family actually pledged anything...

I'd say when it comes to below the median scores, its probably better to have a lopsided score. I have a few friends who had in the low 1300s but it was distributed 790/800 verbals against 550 maths, while I've never heard of a 650/650 getting in.

By the way, the first week of freshman year everyone talks about what schools they got into to, and what their SAT scores were. It's kinda wierd.

recruited athletes

recruited athletes... I love them.

Some say they're taking up spots for more qualified students. I say they're the ones bringing down the curve and taking the C's in my classes.

What;s the lowest math score anyone'd heard of for Wharton?

3.6 weighted, got in early CAS
living proof
