Does Penn offer conditional acceptance?

Hey UPENN Students of all years! Say you have stellar everything but GPA, do they accept you conditionally if you maintain good GPA at Penn? I read that some schools do that sometimes..

“Likely Letters” do not usually go out until spring unless you are a recruited athlete.

Not really. It’s not like British universities, where this is a common practice as I understand it. At Penn (and most other selective colleges), ALL students are told on acceptance that their acceptance can be revoked if their final grades are not consistent with their transcript at the time of acceptance, since almost all students are accepted before they have final grades for 12th grade. But that rule is pretty rarely applied, since it would have such dire consequences for the student – by the time his final grades come in, he will have turned down all but one college, so if that college withdraws his admission he is really in a bad place. So it takes a massive screw-up on the student’s part – maybe a massive screw-up and a half – to get admission revoked on the basis of bad final grades. Like, C’s and D’s across the board, or failing a class required for graduation. Nothing like getting a couple of B’s.
