Does the adcom use the AI index, or does it look at SAT scores and GPA separately and then subjectively go on from there?

Just curious.

For sports, yes. See this link.

But how about for general applicants?
I was told that applicants are separated into different groups based on their index, and that adcom goes from there…

I’m curious about this too. Does anyone know?

According to some posts by Michelle Hernandez, the author of A is for Admissions, on CC some days ago(I can’t find the original posts as I forgot her username), the AI is still in use but carries less weight than it used to

I was shocked at how many points you lose as you go down in class rank… Stupid AI.

Interesting… I wonder what Michelle Hernandez’ user-name is, would have loved to see that post :(

Her user-name is ClassicsGeek. I’m a big fan of her books so be nice to her. Here’s a link to all of her posts

I thought the Academic Index was never actually used for anyone other than athletes, although of course it was supposed to reflect the schools’ general approach to admission. The point was to limit the number of athletes a college could admit who were not at least in the academic ballpark of the rest of the student body.

It would make sense if they don’t use AI directly since it’s based entirely on the information that they will already have from the application and most schools say they use a “holistic” approach

Just because the schools say something doesn’t mean anything. The Ivy’s denied the use of the formula for such a long time, and look at this! AI!

But at the same time, does it really matter if they use it or not? It’s just a way of summarizing a student’s main quantitative stats into one number. They’re going look at scores, rank, etc. anyway

Lemme put it this way - I rather they use AI as their cut-off tool, rather then seperate cut-offs for GPA/Rank and SAT :P. My GPA is low, my SAT is high.
Once they’re at the holistic section, I have my essay, recs, and EC’s to back me up xD

Oh I understand
