Does Pitt look at ACT scores when evaluating applicants for scholarships?

I hear a lot about how it's recommended to have a 1450+ SAT for Pitt. But what about the ACT?
1) Do they use it?
2) Is there some sort of cutoff for scholarships?

Well, the medical school GAP (which is Pitt’s most competitive program) says that applicants must have a 1450 M+CR or 33 ACT to be considered, so I would say they consider a 33 ACT the equivalent to a 1450 M+CR SAT.

I agree. I have seen people with 32 ACT get full scholarships, but usually not.

I have a friend that got a 30 on the ACT and got full tuition. Also, their a bit flexible when it comes to giving scholarships, because I didn’t have 1450, but I still got full tuition. It seems to be that they would like to follow the rule of having the cutoff of 1450, but they really evaluate people on a case by case basis. There maybe hope. But, don’t wait around to hear from them. Its getting closer to the end of the school year, and they start to run out of money. Call them, tell them that you need money to attend, and maybe they’ll review your app again.

My DS got Full Tuition with a 32 ACT and 1490 SAT. We applied back in October and are from OOS.

Thanks everyone! And actually jgirl, I’m only a junior… I’m just looking for info for when I apply next year.

DonnaMom, if your daughter didn’t also have the 1490 SAT, I wonder if she would have gotten the full scholarship based just on the ACT.

How much does when you apply matter for scholarship consideration? I applied early Dec. and have a 1440 M + CR, OOS. Any idea of what I can expect in merit aid?

Everyone should keep in mind that not everyone received full scholarships for a 30 or 32 on the ACT. Students with much higher ACT/SAT scores did not get full scholarships and some not even any scholarships. It is not set in stone that if you score a certain number gets you a scholarship. However it does seem to matter whether you are OOS or URM as Pitt seems to be using the scholarships to pull in students they want.

They base scholarships on the SAT, but will take the ACT into consideration. However, aim for a 1400/1600 SAT. That is the official cutoff for scholarship awards.

LurkNess - you could well be right. I am very thankful for the SAT scores.
