Does "Prestige" of College Affect Transfer Acceptences?

First off, I apologize if this topic has already been addressed in a previous thread. Please note that I did search the thread, and read through the last few pages of archives.

I was curious if the prestige of a student's current college/university has any affect on the student's opportunity of being accepted? Of course, we all know that GPA, course rigor, etc. all weighs on the strength of the student's application. Although, I haven't read anything in regard to my question of prestige. Specifically, I'd like to know how it may affect a student's opportunity at top-tier universities such as HYP, UChicago, Duke, etc.

i think it’s always taken into account at least a little bit, but regardless of where you’re coming from, potential schools like to see that you’re doing well with a rigorous schedule. then again, some schools care more about your passion for your major. i can give you 2 examples. i’m transferring to cornell and i have just under a 3.5 (3.49), which most people would consider low for cornell, but i was accepted because i wrote really great essays which showed my passion for both the school and my intended major. i’m coming from a mediocre state school. there was a girl who transferred from villanova to columbia this passed fall with a 3.28, but she was from villanova. so sometimes it matters, sometimes you can’t really tell.

and btw, P and H don’t take transfers. yale only takes about 20, and if you weren’t a competitive freshman applicant, you won’t be a competitive transfer applicant. what are your stats? we could try to chance you and suggest schools if you give us more info.
