Hey, this is a simple question...

I'm studied in a foreign country in 9th grade, and had a messed up foreign record when it was interpreted by US registrars. THus, my 10th/11th grade GPA's, etc.. were much better than my 9th grade.

Thus, I'm looking for schools that doesn't count 9th grade (that would boost my weigthed GPA about .5, and class rank probably from top 15-20% to valedictorian).

So, I'd like to know if Princeton counts 9th grade into their GPA, and if they consider the class rank from all yrs or only from 10-12th grade?

Thanks for reading. I am eagerly awaiting your informed input.

Watson&Crick.

nope they look at your transcript though. its 10th and 11th that will...alot...so u should get in the habit of working hard from 9th grade

They can't re-evaluate rank from only 10th grade and on because they don't have this information for all the other students.

You should just explain on your application why your ninth grade grades were poorer- they don't just look at rank and GPA, they look at your transcript and background and all circumstances, so I'm sure they'd understand if you explained.

Thanks a lot. It helped. I'll make sure to write about my GPA difficulties.

Oh, I have a new question by reading the link from Weasel.

Since Princeton "shaves of" the plus's and minuses from the recalculated GPA, do they still see our grades?

Because if they use class rank, it will really suck, but if they look at the grades from 10-12 for me, most of them are in the 97-100/100 range (in AP and honors classes).

Regardless of what the poster said in that thread, I don't think Princeton shaves off minuses and pluses. It would only make it harder to distinguish between applicants, which is obviously not in Princeton's interest.

Princeton looks at grades holistically, and does not discount pluses or minuses. It's quite literally them looking at your transcript and scanning at the letters for courses each semester (or trimester.)

Additional information: that is the spot that you can explain what was the situation with ninth grade, along with anything else.

I've heard 9th grade doesn't count. Maybe they look at everything, but your Sophomore and Junior year in high school is what matters most to them? Idk you could always call the admissions office =].
