Does Princeton only look at

Do the admission people at Princeton only look at applicants with grade average A? For example, I recently heard that Yale looks at applicants with 90 or 92 above. Does Princeton do the same? I love Princeton and I would really want to get it but I'm not sure about the chances. I have a B/B+ average at school and taking fairly competitive classes, although I come from a very competitive boarding school where people come from top 5-10% of their classes from middle school. Does Princeton also take the competitiveness of one's school into consideration when they look at the grades? I know that academic is only a part of the application but it should still play a major role.

I doubt that they throw out applications with lower than an A average... and I don't know about considering a school's competitiveness, although I'm sure they do to some extent

Don't worry, Princeton's admitted pool's average unweighted GPA was 3.83

my friend is applying to princeton and he has a 2.9 GPA!! Crazy right! But he is most likely going to go to princeton since he is getting recruited for wrestling.

That's incredibly low, even for a recruit...

A recruit from my school got into pton with a gpa ~ 3.2 W. That's pretty bad at a mediocre public. But, she is an -amazing- athlete.

I have a 3.76UW/ 4.29 W

yeah 2.9 is quite low....unless its some wacky GPA system where the highest is 3 ... ;)

You have to remember that an A at one school might be on par with a C at another school. For example, a student taking all AP level classes in a district where there are a lot of very bright students and where the teacher has a tough curve, it's conceivable that a student might average a 3.0 due to tough classes in courses that aren't the students specialty. Princeton will care far more what classes you take than how you did in them (provided you're decent--not getting D's or F's).

They definitely look at the difficulty of the high school. When GCs are sending in recs, they are also SUPPOSED to send in a "school profile", which tells how many AP classes are offered at the school, the difficulty of the courses, how the high school compares academically with others in the area, etc. Most of them always do this, as far as I am aware.

I would think the low gpa would only NOT be a problem if the student's gpa was near the top of the class; if the student is getting Cs, regardless of the level of difficulty, and there are people getting As and Bs, then Princeton WILL care when it comes to the low gpa.

I think it is all about how you match up against the students in your school

a low gpa will not matter if youre an athlete or legacy

Just remember, nellboy is a troll.

rank is a better indicater than gpa. If you're not in the top 15% and you really have nothing else goin' for ya, it's not gonna work out. Just gotta remember this process is judged holistically!

I really doubt that they ONLY look at applicants with an average of a certain value, though they may prefer students with higher averages (where did you hear this from?)

It is only part of the application and it DOES play a major role.
