Hi (blank),
I just asked the Registrar about the repeated course. She said the grade will show,
however, the credits attempted are removed and not calculated in your GPA.
Colleges do recalculate your transcript using their own formula. You will need to go to
the schools website to confirm how they count grades. Each school is different.
I hope this helps.

Am I done for HYPSM? It'll show a D that counts as an A....

When I take an AP or Honors course at my school, there is a weight added to the grade. For instance, if I earned a 95 in AP Calc, that 95 would be multiplied by 1.1 and show up on the report card as a 104.5.

In your case, if I’m correct, you’re asking if your unweighted ‘95’ will be given weight by the adcoms. I don’t think they will.

The formula she’s talking about might be the Academic Index calculator.

^
I meant if they recalculate your unweighted GPA. For example, my high school will calculate my unweighted GPA as a 3.97. But the thing is, I have a retaken D in there which my school essentially voided but will leave on my transcript. So if Princeton recalculates my GPA, instead of a 3.97, I’ll have like a 3.88, a HUGE difference.

My god, prithvincible! That is an insane weight! For AP and IB courses we get 6 points. With your schools weighting system I’d have like a 108 GPA. I think it’s good that schools remove weights. As can be seen here, the difference can be astounding. Saugus, as far as your D is concerned, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Do as best you can this next quarter (or rest of semester for you, I don’t know your school) and ensure that you got at least a low A+ (97) on everything.

princeton calculates gpa as follows:
they take out your electives and classes like phys ed
they look at the rest of your courses and give their own weights according to how difficult the level of the different courses are
they then find the average of these newly weighted courses and that’s your gpa for them

this was told to me by the admissions counselor that came to my school

they’re going to count what is on the official transcript your counselor sends them.
if both are on there, my guess is that they’ll consider the retake (similar to SAT scores)
princeton counselors have repeatedly said that they want to see your potential
if you were capable of getting an A in the class, that’s what they want to see.
