Does qualifying for aime but not usamo worth anything for colleges such as mit?

No, not at the MIT level.

It depends on your index. There is a huge range of USAMO indices that will qualify you for AIME.

Take 100.5 AMC 12 and 1 AIME. Now, take 114.5 AMC 12 and 7 AIME (my indices in 10th and 11th grade, respectively).

The first one was awful, the second one was not that far off from USAMO qualification. In terms of proving your ability to do math, AIME qualifying is less than USAMO qualifying. But if you have a high index, then that's significant as well. Remember, though, that there are a lot of USAMO qualifiers applying to MIT.

Is it worth ANYTHING? of course it's worth something. It may not be worth THAT much depending on your index, but whatever you have helps.

considering that MIT ASKS for your AIME score, and that your AIME score is a much, much better indicator of mathematical ability than, say, SAT2 Math, I'd say it matters. Maybe not much, but it does. If the only things taht matter are the things taht make you shoo-ins to a school, then how does MIT distinguish between 99% of its applicants?

of course it does. at the very least it shows you cared enough to take the test.
