Does questbridge match program increase your chance?

I'm an international student applying for aid, and I heard if internationals apply for aid that's a HUGE disadvantage for us (except for the 6 schools that are need blind for int'ls).

If I apply to, say, Brown through the match system, how much does it increase my chance of being matched than just applying there for RD? DOES it even increase my chance?

If you do QuestBridge as an international, you can only apply to 9 schools through Match: Brown, Carleton, Grinnell, Pomona, Princeton, Swarthmore, University of Chicago, Washington & Lee, and Yale.

Brown is a huge reach for everyone whether you do Match or you do RD. Expand your options. If you want to know how to best increase your chances, read the second to last paragraph of the first post: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/questbridge-programs/1537703-letter-your-fellow-quest-scholar-about-prestige.html

In general though, does the match system give me any type of advantage (only in terms of admission) over doing RD/ED/EA while applying for aid?

Match has a lower match/acceptance rate then RD with some schools taking as few as one or two percent of the students that rank them…

Yes, but I’m an international applicant applying for aid so I do have a much lower chance than everyone else. Also I see some people with relatively low stats get matched with the school through quest bridge… I just want to see if the match gives me an advantage or not.

On my list there are Pomona, Williams, Brown, Princeton, Northwestern, Swarthmore, Amherst, maybe Carleton. (I know i’m not technically “allowed” to apply match for 3 of these schools but i still put em on the list)

The thing with Match is that it is basically a third chance with no cons attached  Especially for the schools you ranked.

Of all the schools you want to rank, all of them except for Princeton and Brown let you apply ED or EA even if you don’t get Matched. Pomona, Swarthmore, and Carleton let you do EDII. Williams, Northwestern and Amherst let you do ED. Now because you are an international student, I’m not sure if this applies for you, so I would contact the specific school. I know Pomona will consider you in their need-blind pool, as they consider all undocumented and internationals living in the USA, so you should be able to do ED there if you want.

If Princeton and Brown are your top choices and you could see yourself nowhere else, I’d recommend applying either SCEA to Princeton or ED to Brown, and just do the QB app without ranking schools. That way, if you become a finalist, you can still forward your app to some schools. There are 6 schools which are need blind for internationals: Amherst, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, and Dartmouth, so doing any of those schools SCEA, EA, or ED could also be an option.
