Does requesting financial aid affect you admission chances?

I am wondering whether or not to apply for financial aid at some schools, and whether doing so would affect my chances against someone who does not apply for FA. does it depend on the school? should I apply for it anyway? I am an international student and although money is not a too big of a concern for me, it would be very good if I could get at least some help money wise!

Requesting aid should have no effect whatsoever on your admissions–this is especially true for schools that say they will “meet 100% of any demonstrated need”

Apply for aid and see what happens! I know of many in my school that came from middle to middle-upper class families that still got financial aid. Shouldn’t hurt!! Good luck!

However, when it comes to international students there are only 9 schools in the country that are need blind to international students. For all other colleges the ability to pay will be a factor for admitting international students. Even if you do not apply for aid, you will still have to prove that you have the funds to pay for college before you can obtain a visa to study in the US.

There is a large pool of international candidates applying for a small number of spots in US colleges/Universities. When it comes down to 2 similarly qualified students, the tip will go to the student who needs less of the school’s resources. If you need aid, apply for it.

Here’s another thought…if the school is need aware, and you apply for aid but don’t need it…the school will SEE this. They will know that you don’t need a lot of aid.

alright thanks! What are the 9 colleges you’re talking about?
