Wassup CC,
So I’m a rising junior who is really interested in RSI. So some basic background info before I get to my main question.
My current profile: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1792963-which-hypsm-college-s-should-i-try-early-action-for-p1.html
While I can’t say I’m not interested in the prestige of RSI at all, the truth is that there are some research projects (ideas/questions I have come up with) that I can’t experiment for with my current university’s resources. I was hoping RSI would give me a better opportunity to allow me to continue my research in a field that I enjoy a lot.
So, I have very little knowledge about the RSI application process other than it is very very hard to get in. Assuming that all other stats are up to par, does the research topic that you ask for affect your chances? For example, I am really really interested in environmental sciences w/ algae (esp pollution control and energy production). Let's say another applicant has same stats as I, and all our stats are up to par w/ the only difference being that the other student is interested in cancer research and I am interested in environmental engineering. Will either of us have the advantage over the other for getting in based per say on availability of certain professors or current interest?
This is a very subjective question, but I want to know if there is any bias over research subject.
