Does Rice send "likely" letters or make "likely" calls?

Generally (from experience) the people who post on CC are the ones most likely to get in. The sample size here seems to have above average stats and seems to have invested time towards getting into Rice.

As a result, it doesn’t surprise me that many people here got likely letters and many will get in and attend Rice as well.

I am just wondering if it is a REAL likely letter… or everyone got one

@Naive Everyone got that letter.

well… maybe I’m not lucky, but I didn’t get one. I applied engineering major though… so I don’t know what that was all about… Hope it wasn’t a likely letter…

^It was only for people who applied to Social Sciences or Humanities.

Is getting invited to Vision roughly the same as getting a likely letter? Our D was invited this year – she went and fell in love with Rice – but never sure what Visions invite means. Thanks!

The Vision Weekend is for URMs. I don’t think it is a likely letter but a quick search on the web-site told me it is a pretty prestigious honor. From 2010. About 300 invites. Almost 1,000 students were considered in the Vision Weekend selection process, which occurs separately from the admission process. To be selected for the all-expenses-paid weekend, students who applied to Rice had to demonstrate in their applications how they have embraced their diverse backgrounds. Good Luck to your D!

Vision weekend is primarily to showcase Rice. I would say that being invited to VW is a good sign as Rice is investing time and expense in bringing your D there.

While it does not guarantee getting in, VW shows that Rice is interested and is trying to “sell” Rice to everyone who attends.

Good Luck!

Thank you Antarius and ImaCheerMom!

My D did not get a letter. She applied at 9 schools. 4 for 4 with acceptances so far. we are just waiting for all the others to let her know, so that we can make a good decision.

Has anyone out there gotten a likely letter from Rice this year?

Really? A lot of people say this and to me it’s a little ridiculous (no offense intended). I mean, I worked really, really, really hard. In school, in my extra-curriculars, on my applications.

Now I am just chilling. I don’t have to DO anything–just to wait. Maybe I’m a little apprehensive/excited/nervous about decisions, but I don’t see how this time is “the hardest part of the admissions process.”

It sounds like you’re coasting, Quomodo? That’s great!
Any tips for those who aren’t finding the wait as easy?

The problem for most people isn’t that they don’t have to do anything; it’s that they can’t do anything.

No i didn’t get an email but I’m not a humanities student…

just realized this is from last year…
