Does RISD like comedy? Applied for Painting as transfer

Hey everyone- This is the week I hear back from RISD as to whether or not I’ve been accepted as a transfer (I’m REALLY nervous because if I don’t get in I’m taking a year off from my current school, CalArts). I’m worried that I ruined my portfolio by including a lot of comedic pieces. I also included 4 short films, which I’m not sure if they’ll like? Does RISD like it when Painting majors do video work?

Lemme know if you wanna see some of my pieces - If you’re currently enrolled at RISD or if you just got in, could you show me your work too? I can’t find any similar RISD work to mine besides maybe Ryan Trecartin, and even then I make a lot of stupid feminist social commentary stuff thats different than his. Also, if I don’t get in, I’d love advice for next year.

The RISD security patrol cars are painted with the slogan “Defenders of the Arts” so I think they appreciate humor.

how do you think they feel about stripping and smashing tables with airhorns and fart sound effects?

I don’t know enough about RISD to hazard a guess as to whether they would see that a a fit for their program.

Considering some of the reports I’m hearing from my D in her studio classes there re conceptual art…yep they might LOVE airhorns and fart sounds.

Update: I was waitlisted and unfortunately they didn’t take anyone this year. If I’d applied as a freshmen, though, I imagine I would’ve gotten in. Oh well!

Sorry to hear that - hoping this year off brings good things your way.
