There are Universities that will offer an acceptance to a program outside of what was applied for. Carnegie Mellon for example, has offered an acceptance to the Mellon College of Science to a person that applied only to the College of Engineering.
For a person only wanting to apply to RPI early decision to the “School of Science”, will they offer a different school if the applicant is denied their first choice program?
@GoRedhead I don’t believe RPI offers admission to another college/major. The universities that offer second option, generally list this information on the common app where you can pick second/third major etc. It is a good question for admission office though. My son also applied early decision to school of science. I previously called and they told me that if your early decision application is denied, they don’t even offer an option for the application to be reviewed again during the regular decision (some colleges offer that option too).
