<p>Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s required.</p>
<p>You don’t even have to apply to a 2nd college. But if you do, yes there has to be an essay.</p>

<p>I remember hearing somewhere though (maybe from the Cornell website or here) that applying to a second college won’t really increase your chances, if that’s what you’re looking for. Because you’ll still have to meet many of the same requirements; they said that almost all the time, an applicant that gets rejected from his/her first choice usually won’t get into his/her second choice. I don’t mean to be negative - you should definitely use the opportunity if you’re really interested. I just applied to engineering, and I thought about applying to A&S second choice, but I decided not to. Primarily cause engineering is what I want to do.</p>
<p>I loved the opportunity to write another essay. Your primary college gets to read it and something tells me they do. Why not take that opportunity to give more info about yourself to the adcoms?</p>
<p>Shouldn’t matter if you have to or not…you should just do it. You have to assume that all the other kids competing with you are going to do the absolute maximum amount of stuff possible.</p>
