Does self-studying an AP look as good as taking an actual class?

<p>Will colleges even notice if you've taken like a lot of other exams and your school offers a lot anyway? And you're only self-studying 1?
I'm self-studying b/c yearbook prevents me from taking AP Psych and I want national AP scholar before junior year. I know that's a dumb reason to self-study, but I'm a prestige whore. :&lt;/p>

<p>i would say yes, maybe even better. but who am i to say. I’m taking 7 tests this year with 5.5 classes (my physics class is like ap physics lite) and I’m a junior that’s already struggling. we can be whores together.</p>

<p>The funny thing is though I have soo much more time on my hands than I did last year, and I only did 2 APs then. [AP World consumed all my time last year.]
Then again, it’s only the 4th week of school xp

<p>Really, though? I’ve always gotten the impression that the AP exams aren’t that difficult compared to actual college classes (and they have 60%-70% curves for the equivalent of an A!), so self-studying doesn’t really indicate much besides knowing the basics of the subject. At our school, the AP classes (and even some of the honors classes) are usually somewhat (or in some cases, much) harder than the AP exams, so that may explain why; the counselors refused to let me skip Algebra 2 or Precalculus even if I had gotten a 5 on the AP Calc exam when I asked them in freshman year, so I decided not to take the AP exam. (The school seems more lenient nowadays, though…)</p>

<p>Lots of people do, it’s a pretty decent award to have for your college apps. AP Psych is an easy AP to self-study, so it won’t really carry super weight.</p>
