I am wondering about that. If you send in your application before the deadline does it mean colleges will read it the day you send it in?

For ED/EA/RD deadlines, no, unless you are an athletic recruit. For Rolling Admissions, they may not read it on the same day, but will shortly thereafter.

It will depend upon the university and if you are applying ED, EA, RD or the school has rolling admissions.

@gumbymom For ED.

Then why do people submit their apps so early?

If you have the application done, why not submit. Out of sight, out of mind and you can move onto to your other applications if needed.

If you submit early, then you have a chance to track the application and make sure everything is complete before the deadline. It may also demonstrate your interest at that school. Some schools do not even start downloading the application files until a couple weeks before the deadline. Usually, the last 2 weeks before deadline is the prime time that most of the application coming in.

To add on to what @billcsho said, some colleges also assign interviews starting before their deadlines. So some students turn their application in early so they can get an earlier interview and get the process finished quicker.
