I applied to NYU Stern for ED2 and I'm doing mediocrity in all my classes except for AP Lit and AP Mic/Mac which I both have 93+ in. I'm taking 4 APs (AP lit, AP calculus ab, AP Mic/mac, and AP Physics B) and one college level course. It's a workload this year so I'm afraid that they're going to weigh this against me.

However, NYU doesn't require midyear reports until 3/1 for ALL applicants; which is weird since ED2 decisions come out 2/15. Do you think my first semester grades are going to hurt me a lot?

Thank you, everyone!

D’s school does not even send out mid-year grades until the end of February. So NYU would not have them to make an ED2 decision for any applicants from our high school, the same as they didn’t have them to make D’s ED1 decision.

There are circumstances where NYU admissions will ask for mid-year and even 1st quarter grades for a specific ED applicant, but that is not the norm.

Obviously if your school goes ahead and sends them to NYU and they get the mid year grades as they are reviewing an applicant, then they will probably consider them. Do you know what your school’s policy is about sending them? When are they available? Are they automatically sent, or do you need to request that they be sent?

You may be able to control when they are rec’d so that a decision is made without them.

My schools term ends in the beginning of February and they do not send transcripts until mid-February. I spoke to my guidance counselor and told her to stall for as long as she can (meaning she’ll send the report after 2/15). Would they really take it against me that i have low grades this semester?

Thanks!

If they don’t get the grades and don’t request them, then your decision will be made without them. Assuming you are accepted, they are not going to change their admissions decision based on mid-years. If they are truly bad grades in several classes, I would guess that they may contact you and issue a stern warning that they expect you to do better for the rest of the year.

In past years–at least when older D was accpeted RD–NYU never even asked for mid year grades. All decisions were based on grades through junior year unless requested.

Good luck!

Thank you VERY much for your help! What program is your daughter in in NYU?

Older D is graduating in May with a BM degree in Vocal Performance through Steinhardt.

Younger D was just accepted ED1 for a BFA in Studio Art in Steinhardt.

Wow, congrats! Hopefully Stern takes me!
