Today I was picking courses for my senior year classes and I questioned if I really needed to take as many AP’s as possible for senior year. I took 2 junior year so why should I take another 2 AP’s senior year if that year is only to wrap up my high school career. I was thinking I should just take 1 AP and 1 honors. That would be much easier than taking 2 AP’s just to make a year look good. What do you all recommend? Is it really necessary to take as many AP’s as you did junior year in senior year or can I tone it down? Of course, this would be assuming you would keep up your grades.
Take enough to look good.
Stress less about college admissions
Take enough to survive.
Huh. Accidental Haiku.
Nonetheless, I wouldn’t freak so much. Take courses that you’re interested in, and that happen to be at a relatively high level. I wouldn’t take courses as a senior just because they’re APs, especially given how that mentality will hurt you later in your application
People say college apps are like an extra class, so keep that in mind. I’m not even sure if people send them in during Junior or Senior year though lol
@Anish14 college apps are like an extra AP class! And a hard one, at that
In general, colleges just want to see that your schedule is challenging you throughout high school. If you feel that 1 AP and 1 Honors class is enough for you, then go for it. It most likely won’t impact any decisions you receive.
(We all ASSUME that challenging classes are what college admission officers like to see, nobody can 100% say that taking 20 AP’s will look better than taking 5 AP’s though…)
Senior year is the most important year, and as such, you should want to take a course that is rigorous, yet one that you can do well in. I am sure that colleges that you apply to will question why last year you had 2 AP classes, yet this year would only do 1. Unless you did poorly, I would think that it would be a good idea to take the same number of AP classes if not more!
