D is going to be 1 or 2 (it's very close) in her high school class but it is a small class of only 38 at a Catholic School. Class is very competitive though. Average ACT of top 12 for example is 32 and students from this school have recently gone to Duke, Vandy, Harvard, UT and even Cambridge. I know UT has the school profile, but do you think being from such a small class will hurt her? She has a strong QPA, great ECs and a fairly strong SAT, plus National Merit Semifinalist. Hope finalist too. :) (4 in this small class.) Thanks.

If you are from TX: I would think that she will be an auto admit under top 10% and will have no trouble getting into her choice of schools.

If you are not from TX: I still think she will have no problem getting into UT and probably scholarship $$ but don’t know how they do the school selection cut offs for OOS.

If she’s #2, It hurts her rank unfortunately, 2 out of 38 makes her 6%, but honestly, with a 32 ACT, she will be fine. If she’s a TX resident, she’s still top 10%, so except for the most ridiculous majors, she’s an auto admit.

The whole class size thing is such a bummer. I have friends whose kids are from small schools like that too, and they totally get screwed by the rank thing. Your daughter’s school goes up agains places like Cy Woods, where there is 1500 seniors!! so her rank is the same as someone there who is #80 out of 1500 - something’s not right about that!!!

Gook luck!! - but it sounds to me like she’ll be totally in whatever major she chooses.
