Does someone want to read my Amherst Supplement Essay?

I could really use some good opinions/ critiques

I did the quote: “Difficulty need not foreshadow despair or defeat. But rather achievement can be all the more satisfying because of the obstacles surmounted.”

Anyone?

Send it to me, I'll read it.

I'll read it, too. I responded to the same prompt.

Send it to me, I ll give my comments. I wrote the same essay as a transfer and I got in.

I will read :)

Dispaice, if one can give a compelling, true story that resonates with that prompt, I think it's the strongest. COngrats on your acceptacne as an xfer--that's quite a feat!
My 'hook' (I hope), or one of them, will lie in my "overcoming of obstacles".

^everyone has obstacles in their lives though, so I don't know how that is much of a hook.

Thats fine Froghorn, since in that case their is a specimen to dissect, then the question arises " what are we loking for". Since your mental skills and talent is what is being sought you must be careful to adequately expose them.

My approach was analytical in the sense that I went back to the basics; what do we mean when we say "difficulties in life"?, Maybe their is no such thing, maybe that is infact life and perhaps in the extreme it might be a necessity in the same way one would consider good practice a necessity when preparing for a marathon race.

Their are several ways of approaching the issue, whichever way you choose, try to remain original.

Best of luck.

I wouldn't mind having a look at it .. not applying to Amherst ..

We all have obstacles, some greater than others. Thanks for the advice Dispiace; I believe my essay is true both to the quote and to me, thus by the nature of the latter, individual. I'm not worried about it.

i'll read it...im doing the science one

I'll read it.
I'm doing the Kennedy quote.

i'll read it too, i'm doing the one about stereotypes.

would anyone care to read my essay and strongly criticize me? I promise I'll read yours and be as tough as I can ;)

Sure Daniel (mine is sent in already) but I'll be happy to look at yours.

i just sent mine in with that topic
pm me ill read

i did the science one. i'll read yours and give you feedback.

Sure. I already did mine on the 3rd one on the list I believe. :-)

Will anyone read mine and be harsh about it? I just had it looked at for grammar and diction by another user in the college essays thread, but I'd love to have someone analyze how well it answers the prompt.

I'm doing the difficulty quote as well, no thanks to Williams and their deferrments-that-are-really-rejections (I mean really, only 15 to 20 deferred kids out of 7000 regular applicants?! sheesh.)

I just can't wait until it's all over.

God bless Dartmouth for not having a supplemental.

If you haven't already sent it in and are still awake, I'd be happy to read it. I am a harsh critic.....

if you havent sent it in yet...ill read it as well
