I was wondering if sports count as extra- curriculars when applying for college

Uh yes?

10char

I would say 20+ hours a week is a little more of a commitment than a 2 hour “club” meeting.

Yes, and being captain of a sports team is considered leadership.

Ok, i will play football(jv) wrestling(varsity) and maybe golf this year ( im a rising 9th grader) i already have a spot on the jv football team and im 99% sure that i will start varsity for wrestling. Will this make mr “standout” to colleges? Especially the varsity wrestling?

“standout”? No. Quite typical – but it’s good.

What if im a captain of the team? Or if i place in states or even win states? Then would it standout?

Hardly a standout at all. Are you nationally ranked? (being ranked 100th doesn’t count). And you’re original question has to be the most ignorant, uninformed question I’ve ever heard on CC. Real athletes, the kids getting recruited to D1 and even D3 in some cases, work their arses off day in and day out, while also handling school, many achieving higher marks than their peers who have nothing to do at night but study. Not sure if you meant it, but if you were implicating for the slightest moment that some kid who’s captain of a club, or, omg, maybe even the school’s activities director, has more of an “ec” than a near-professional athlete then pity on you.

“I was wondering if sports count as extra- curriculars when applying for college . . .”

Yes - sports is an EC.

I was just curious… I thought this site was to ask questions about college and hope for people to inform you… Sorry if i offended you but, my question was not suppose to come off as arrogant.

He said ignorant which is totally different than arrogant.
Ignorant means lacking knowledge or being unaware.
Arrogant means thinking higher of yourself than you are.
This is an honest question and the poor kid is just going into high school so lay off a little.

Sports are good but remember less than 10% of high school athletes play on a college team.
