I’m hoping someone else has better information. DS is completing the Stanford application and can’t find a way to send his resume. He did call admissions and was told that resumes are not accepted.
I’m having a difficult time believing that since DS has far more awards and leadership experiences than will fit on either the Common App or the Stanford Supplement. Surely, the admissions office would be interested in a more complete profile.
Does anyone have experience/advice to share? Thanks for any help.
My ds went through the application process three years ago, but resume’s were not accepted then either. If you have been told by admissions that they are not accepted, do NOT send one in!
I understand about the difficulty of having many awards and much leadership experience - most applicants do. The best advice I can offer is 1) choose those that are the most significant, and 2) consolidate where possible. As an example, my ds had numerous piano awards he had earned, and he also had additional facets to his piano playing (gigs, charity events, church work, volunteer work, etc). As best he could, those were listed as one item on the Common App, if memory serves me correctly. It might have been two - one for awards and one for the other facets. Okay, memory is not serving me correctly! But there would have been no way to have listed each of those individually as piano performance was only one of his ECs.
Don’t send a resume if the college has said they don’t accept them! It will not make colleges happy to get the additional info (and they won’t even look at it).
Try to do what @Hoggirl said and group similar ECs together. You can also elaborate in the Additional Info section.
As far as I can remember, none of the colleges I applied to accepted resumes. The CommonApp/Coalition App essentially serves the same purpose in a standardized format. Also, please do not bring resumes to Stanford alumni interviews, if offered one.
Thanks for all the feedback here and through PM. He’s going to work on consolidating a few things.
So far, he’s only had two schools out of six (so far) that don’t want to see a resume.
