does stanford actually interview ppl?

When i met one of their reps at an info session, he said that they "try to interview when they can". I've been stalking this forum for a while but not seen any posts at all about interviews.. So has anyone actually gotten a call to interview or anything?

this year they're only doing interviews in like 5 cities i think
it's a new idea their testing out, because they've never done interviews before
they have to contact you about the interview, though, because they refuse to allow you to travel to the selected cities in order to get interviewed

I did an interview a couple weeks ago

I'm not sure that I like this. Definitely puts the rest of us at a disadvantage; I think a personal meeting impacts a person (aka an admissions officer) much more than reviewing some application or reading an essay. Papers are boring, and I'm not boring! Haha...

FAQ : Stanford University

In the past, Stanford has not offered interviews either on campus with admission officers or with alumni. For the 2008-09 admission cycle the Office of Undergraduate Admission will offer an optional alumni interview to applicants in six cities, which will make up only about 4% of our applicant pool. This is a small pilot program, which we will evaluate in the spring to determine whether or not to expand.

The cities involved in the interview pilot program are Atlanta, Denver, London, New York City, Philadelphia and Portland. Interviews will be offered only to applicants who attend high school in selected zip codes within those regions. You may not travel to a pilot city to have an interview.

If you are eligible to be a part of the pilot interview program, an alumnus or alumna will call you after you have submitted your application. You do not need to do anything – if an interview is available to you, you will hear from us. Please do not call or email the Office of Undergraduate Admission to request an interview and/or to find out if you are eligible for an interview.

Although we will make every effort to offer an interview to all eligible applicants in the pilot cities, please understand that due to limited resources in some areas, interviews may not be available to every candidate. Your application to Stanford will be considered complete with or without an interview.

k thanks all, well at least most of us don't have to worry about this

i got one.

I got one in Denver.

I got one in Nouvelle York!

It's odd that they are not piloting this in the Bay Area...I'd assume that there are too many applicants in the region?

Interviews don't even matter that much, I don't see why you guys are stressing over this. Isn't it GOOD to have one less thing to worry about? Seriously.
