I know UC Berkeley offers a Nuclear Engineering major, but I'm not so sure about Stanford. I'm interested in studying about Nuclear Engineering (if not as a major then as a minor) and I'm trying to choose between UC Berkeley and Stanford.

Also, I am aware that Stanford has the SLAC. Do undergraduates get an opportunity to conduct research there?

I might be going to stanford as an EE major and from what I can tell from their course list they dont have much in the way of nuclear. I know that Berkeley does have it.
(also just some opinion: my parents work in the industry and they see it as a dead-end and they wish they’d never gone in to it)

I don’t think Stanford has anything in nuclear engineering. Definitely not any degree program. Very few schools have nuclear engineering–it’s a field still in its infancy (at least, within university program rosters).

Undergrads definitely do research at SLAC–I know two students who did (doing?) that. One was working at SLAC during freshman year, though I don’t think that happens a lot.

The best nuclear engineering program is probably at one of the Universities of Paris…

I will be honest, if you want a AMAZING Nuclear Engineering program look no further than the University of Michigan AA.

UC Berkeley has a really great Nuclear program.

Is there any way one can get exposed to Nuclear or Particle physics education or research in Stanford? I’m trying to choose between Stanford and UC Berkeley.

LovelyBones, I would recommend contacting the faculty members listed on the Stanford Physics Department website who have identified research interests in experimental particle physics and experimental nuclear physics. They would be in the best position to characterize the opportunities for exposure by Stanford undergrads to these areas, especially with respect to research opportunities.
