Does sub-free label me as a geek/dork?

I'd like to be on a fairly quiet floor, but I also want to have fun some of the time. Will choosing a sub-free floor give me that flexibility or will label me as a geek/dork?

Sorry, that didn’t sound right.

IMO, the people who get the subfree stereotype label are the ones who are not open to trying new experiences/ are alienating. Sounds like that’s not you, so you shouldn’t even be worried about it. (For the record, I am not advocating drinking if that makes you uncomfortable - you can avoid being a total hermit but still not break your personal values, if that’s something you care about).

Also, there are lots of people who are put in sub free that don’t want to be there (ie parents make them check that box, etc).

Just whatever you do, don’t be the sub-free person who comes up to another floor at 11pm on a Friday and asks if anyone wants to study/do a problem set right then and there to a group that is drinking.

That being said, I lived on a “party floor” and had no real problems with noise.

In my experience, nobody really cares all that much what kind of floor you live on. I personally did not live on a sub-free floor but I had many friends who did and still do. One of the nice things of sub-free is that the members tend to more tight and develop closer friendships. I lived on a floor that was not sub-free and mostly singles so that may have contributed to how we rarely associated at all.

But still, it’s really your friend group that matters with what kind of washu experience you have, not necessarily your floor. And hey, sub-free floors have a lot of fun too even if it’s non-alcoholic!

For the general record, sub-free floor friend groups also have a lot of alcohol related fun as well. As I mentioned, a lot of people are forced into sub-free that never wanted to be there in the first place. And there are a lot of people who choose sub-free because they want to party, but don’t want to deal with a party going on where they sleep.

But yeah, if the op is worried about a sub-free stereotype, the kind of person who would worry about that more than likely doesn’t fit the stereotype anyway.
