Does submitting your application early help your chances?

Does it make any difference if I submit it November 1st vs. November 30th? Obviously I'm not going to wait until the deadline, but I'd like to know if applying earlier would help your chances or if UC's even look at your application before the fall semester is over.

Nope. But you shouldn’t wait til the last day to submit, the servers’ll get busy and crash-y when the deadline rolls around.

Admissions typically won’t even start looking at transfer applications until after the January update, so as you can probably guess it won’t make any difference when you submit your application. Remember they have all the freshmen applications to evaluate and respond to before the transfer applications. So they typically start and finish those before they start evaluating the transfers like some time in February/March.

As failure622, definitely don’t wait until the last day to submit. The servers tend to be painfully slow and things can happen. A few years ago there was a significant earthquake in socal the night applications were due and some people were unable to submit because of power outages. Thankfully they extended the deadline, but I wouldn’t always count on that.

Submit before Thanksgiving so you’ll have no stress during the holiday.

My goal, although I don’t know how if I’ll be able to accomplish it…

If you applied for TAG, you might also want to wait until the decisions for that are released so you can check that box in the application. They come out mid-November.

^what box?

I concur. There are plenty of good reasons to get the application finished and sent before the deadline, but an admissions bump, unfortunately, isn’t one of them.

@bolandgoo There’s a box you can check on the application if you have a TAG with a particular school. I just checked and apparently checking the box only if your TAG has been approved only matters for UCD, UCM and UCSC. So I guess just disregard my previous comment if you’re not applying for tag at any of those schools.
