Does taking an SAT Prep course... look bad?

I'm going to take an SAT Prep course over the summer for high school credit? Does that look bad on transcripts?

Yes, it looks really bad if its on your transcript. Do you need the credit to graduate? Can;t you take the course for no credit?

Are you serious? It looks bad? Ugh... I saw it and I was like "wow, free SAT Prep"...

I don't think it looks bad.

no it doesnt

I don't see why any college would care

well i think it would look bad, SAT's were designed to test the knowledge a student already has and im sure colleges dont want students to slave over a test.

should I just cancel? better to be safe then sorry (applying to some top-tier/ivy league schools)?

It doesn't look that bad if you take it over the summer. If you take it instead of taking calc your senior year it looks awfull. However, you shouldn't cancel if you have the oppurtunity to take the course for free..

Oh ok. I'm not taking it instead of any class...

i'm just taking it over the summer along with ap micro. so I should be fine?

I mean I'll cancel it without hesitation if it is a detriment to my applications... (it's not an honors credit or anything).

Yeah sure, if its not like a competitive class, just study on your own. But I'm sure it doesn't look "bad" . . . it shows that you care, that you'll go the extra step and take a class to prepare. Not every highschooler cares that much. But I've been in SAT prep classes, they dont help. . . basically besides making you take tests. . it only helps people who are unmotivated, which doesn't seem to be your problem.

Maybe your can take it without it showing up on your transript?
I suggest you take if you think it will help. However, a lot of people here question if SAT prep courses help at all.
If you take it alongsied an AP class it won't look that bad.

I just think it would look dumb that you're giving yourself an academic credit for an SAT Prep class.....

"...giving yourself an academic credit..."

I'm not giving myself an academic credit, it's a regular class over the summer over here.

And you get an academic credit automatically for it?? If I were you, I'd just request that it not be added to your transcript. I just think it looks a little funny.

at my school we had a program where you took the SAT class, but on your transcript it showed up as a "College Prep" upper level class. You could also just take College Prep, but this way you got credit for it.

I think it wouldn't be bad. Take it.

too late. I cancelled. :(

ok honestly I wouldn't have cancelled. If you feel you need practice why would you cancel?? I wouldn't take the advice from a lot of people at this site. I mean a few have good advice. You need to do what you feel you can do. If you wanted to prepare yourself you should have taken it and obviously you did want to prepare yourself if you requested it. And I don't see why a college would care. As long as you have rigorous courses down, the AP and honros courses will capture their attention over the reg classes. I would have stayed in the class because tha is not something you should have to ask people on a site anyway. I mean my reading SAT was a 480 before I took the SAT class and after I took it my SAT reading was a 610. Oh well you already dropped it.
