I took a public speaking course over the summer at a local CC for my own personal benefit. I realized afterwards, however, that it's possible to request inclusion of my CC course grade (A) onto my transcript. I don't need a GPA boost (4.0UW/5.0W), but I've heard that CC course grades are counted as non-weighted and thus has the possibility of lowering W GPA. Thoughts?

Depends on how your school handles your GPA.My DD took several CC and State Univ. classes during her summers. They were added to her HS transcript. her GPA stayed 4.0, as no weight given to her transcript. They were factors in determining the valedictorian at her school.(She was selected) Does that answer your question?

It depends on your school. At my school, Pre-AP and CC courses are weighted as 4.5s, while APs are counted as 5.0s. Talk to your counselor to see what your GPA would be with the CC class.

As others have said, it will depend on your school’s policy. If I recall, you’re val–if your school ranks using weighted GPA and CC classes are UW, strongly consider not putting that class on your transcript. There are other ways to document it.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I’ll definitely ask my counselor once school starts (three more days, eeek!)

What are some other ways? For schools like Stanford and Princeton that ask what you did over the summer, it’s easy enough to make a quick reference to it, but they won’t have access to my report card - plus there are some schools that stopped asking what you did over the summer (Harvard) and some schools that never did.
