Does teaching myself Swedish add to my applications?

I was wondering if teaching my self Swedish adds to my applications? I know it wont be defining or make a big difference, but do they even care?

Likely not much at all as you suspect.

But my kiddo’s friend, the val at her top-ranked HS, learned languages like a boss – as well as being a 4.0 with crazy SATs.

He mastered Spanish, French, German. Took Chinese to the highest levels and was learning Yoruba from youtube.

Colleges were falling over themselves trying to admit him.

Maybe if you go to school in Sweden.

I wouldn’t expect a huge bump but might differentiate you a little bit. It definitely won’t hurt!

That’s an “in” at Minnesota’s Gustavus Adolphus College, which routinely hosts visits of the Swedish royal family. But you appear to be reaching for more a more selective group of colleges. Self-learning could show initiative and an ability to study independently, but in your case that is mitigated by the fact that you apparently are home-schooled. Teach yourself to make Lefsa as well.

Sure, I’d put it in.

It really depends on how good your Swedish is and how long you have been studying it.
In the additional information section(if you are using Common App. I am not sure about other application methods.), you can add a Swedish composition you did to demonstrate your level of Swedish. It would make a difference.
