Does Telebears audit enrolled students for prereqs, CS specifically?

Hey all,

I'm wondering if Telebears audits enrolled students in a particular class to see if they've satisfied the prereqs for that course, and drop them if they haven't?
In particular, I'd like to take CS 61B but haven't taken CS 61A or Engineering 7.
I did take CS 3L and an intro java course at Foothill College, if it matters.

If anybody has any knowledge regarding this, let me know !

Thanks.

They say it does, but I haven’t seen anyone being dropped from a course because of prereqs.

I know loads of people (myself included) who have taken classes without the prerequisites being fulfilled. Nobody seems to care.

The only requirements that can be checked by telebears are those such as class standing, major and the like that are displayed on the bearfacts ‘personal’ tab, basically, it doesn’t have the ability to read into your transcript/history of classes to check at that level. You will never see a registration category for telebears that lists something like “Completed xxxx 25 course” because of this. It can see the few conditions like AC completed, units attained, class level, major declared, but that is about it.

Where the pre-req can be enforced is manual action by the department, professor or GSIs. For example, Bio 1A and Bio 1AL are so impacted as classes that the department specifics conditions that cannot be enforced by telebears, thus they are enforced by the department which will scan through and drop students who don’t meet the conditions. If a class is full with a long wait list, someone may decide to look through the enrolled students and drop any that don’t have all the pre-reqs. Pretty rare to have that happen as far as I can tell. On the other hand, if you are on a waitlist and it is being cleared manually, you may find that the lack of a pre-req puts you at the back of the line regardless of the number you ‘hold’ on the waitlist. Probably happens more, but hard to say why someone does or does not clear a waitlist if it is not done strictly or automatically in order of waitlist position.

Overall, not much of an issue. As long as you can keep up and are not critically impaired by lack of some predecessor skills or knowledge you would have gained in the pre-req, it really doesn’t seem to matter.
