Does the adcom actually read our essays??

So i read this article in the christian science monitor, and it says how the Dean makes decisions about applicants in less than 2 minutes....here is the article

<a href="http://www.csmonitor.com/durable/1998/12/15/fp11s1-csm.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.csmonitor.com/durable/1998/12/15/fp11s1-csm.shtml</a></p>

Look at how Dean Stetson decides to accept an applicant in under 2 min...it doesn't seem as though they actually read his essays

That's right. He MAKES DECISIONS in under two minutes, after HALF AN HOUR is spent checking and reading through the application:

Ms. Jackson begins by reviewing plaudits for a high school senior. Like each of Penn's 16 regional directors, she has spent at least half an hour on each application, checking test scores, class rank, recommendations, extracurricular activities.

I presume that half hour includes reading the essays.

I wonder how similar of a process they have for transfer applicants. Also, since I'm from TX, do you think that could play a role?

I got an e-mail from an admissions officer asking me a question about my application, and in it, he mentioned details from my essay, so if he didn't read it, that would seem very odd to me.
