TO BE EXACT: Does one’s primary or secondary choice of majors matter a lot for ESSAYS, or for BEING ACCEPTED OR NOT?

As folks here already know, the Common App requires that three prospective majors be filled in accordingly when you start writing the transfer applications. For some this question would just be easy as any, but right now I’m torn down between two drastically different majors, and do not know which one to choose.

Econ and philosophy-as I figure it out, they are two incompatible fields of study that requires totally different approach in writing essays. Specifically, I don’t know whether I should apply U of Chicago as econ major or philosophy major. I think I have solid HS and College backgrounds in these two fields(nationwide contests, internships at an investmentbank, relevant coursework, good rec.)

Just to talk about myself a bit more- my current major is business, finance. I slowly got tired of my major over my freshman and sophomore years and now try to find a better fit before it’s too late to start anew. Or at least this is what I intend to write for the personal essays to Brown and Columbia(definitely philosophy major). But for Chicago, it’s pretty hard to decide because I was drawn to game theory before(have taken related courses and got As) and I have some stories to write about for my supplementary essays. And after all, what is U of Chicago is known for?

So here my questions follow, and I would appreciate your help in advance!

Should one tailor one’s personal(supplementary) essays to one’s primary and secondary choice of majors?
In my case, those would be either 1st.Phil 2nd.Econ or 1st.Econ 2nd.Phil.

Does one’s major play an important part in deciding one’s acceptance? Is there any proportion or percentage per each department or major?
If yes, then I’d rather go for a higher chance one.

Any advice please!!
