Does the "eliteness" run in the family?

Those of you with siblings, are they pretty much as intelligent as you? Do they go to prestigious institutions, or was it just you who got that opportunity?

My brother is smart, but he’s kind of a *-up, so he goes to Thiel College (a *ty private school in PA), but he’s trying to transfer to Temple.

my sister goes to Princeton, and i'll be at Brown in the fall...

but my brothers....it's not that they really lack intelligence per se, but, neither of them have ANY sense of responsibility, common sense, or foresight for the future...it's really f-in frustrating

my younger one tested into the gifted program in school, and technically should have been in precalc or calc this year, but instead is repeating algebra I. he wants to a music producer and actually sold samples/beats to legit producers...but even lacks the motivation to take advantage of those few opportunities

the older brother went to a local technical school (ITT), but helped my dad run his business and is fairly decent on a computer (programming, etc)

that being said, i don't like to hear people badmouthing my family...i figure if out of my mom's 12 brothers, 5 of them were a success, and 4 of them became eventual successes, my brother's can do it with time ...

My oldest brother's at Brown and is one of the most responsible and smart guys I know.

My other brother is not so stellar, but by his own choice. My calc teacher said he has the most amount of mathematical talent she's ever seen, but he got a 1 on the AP exam because he's such a slacker. He's at Ithaca, which is not bad, but not as good as he could have done.

I am going to Brown.

Sister - Berkeley

Brother - No college

what is it with guys? ;) (except for amor and rabo's older brother of course lol)

Mine just has a classic case of middle child syndrome

Older brother: slacker in high school, went to U of Arizona, dropped out, went to a local community college, and now is trying to transfer into UCLA (we'll see...)

Twin brother: trying ED II for Pomona College

Myself: accepted EA to Georgetown, still waiting to hear from Brown (tied for #1), Dartmouth, and Penn

"Mine just has a classic case of middle child syndrome"

Mine, too!

And mine, too!

My sister (the third kid... I'm the oldest) and I are really outgoing and motivated. But even though my brother is ultra-bright, he plays video games and watches the yankees (that's all he cares about, seriously) and doesn't really care about anything else. He's a good kid though, so we're hoping he'll come around.

One of my sisters went to Brown. One went to Wesleyan. My brother was just as academically capable as my sisters were, but he wasn't interested in academics so he didn't go to an elite school. I suppose academic ability runs in our family, but what really gave my sisters the opportunities they had was effort and academic interest. There are a ton of smart kids who don't give a f*** about school, but I doubt you'll see them at schools like Brown.
