Does the HARVARD 'brand' matter? More than ever, says USA Today

It would be a disgrace to Harvard to accept you, dha_06.

Posted by dha: "And by the way, I am not racist. You implied that Asians are smarter than White/Latino/Black individuals. I merely inferred and stated it."

Do you actually know what inferred means? Are you a complete moron? (don't bother answering that one). Inferred and implied mean the same thing.

dha-the difference between us and you is that most of us have been through the process and are going to college. as i said before, the greater the pride, the greater the fall.

First of all dha, if you look through the history of posts, you were the first poster in this thread to mention Asians at all. Don't go around saying we implied anything; that was all you. Second of all, unless you miraculously mature about 10 years and relearn the grammar and math you seem to have missed throughout high school, I don't foresee you holding onto a Crimson diploma. Deluding yourself won't help.

Dha, I am an Asian who is not planning to concentrate on engineering or anything science related.

This morning I saw a post by you that stated that I "am so gay" because of my philosophical explanation (maybe it got deleted because of the word "gay"?). Mock my explanations if you must, but I made the martial arts analogy in hoping that people here would understand the true meaning of receiving an ideal education from college.

I am well aware that you view Harvard with high regards, which is perfectly fine. I visited Harvard on a tour about two months ago, and I fell in love with the place; in fact, Harvard is number one on my list of colleges. Now, in my past posts I said many great things about Harvard, but I also talked about great programs from other schools across the nation. I think you're disagreeing with me because I view Harvard differently than you. I recognize both the pluses and minuses of the school's offerings and I like to compare them to other places.

It's good to talk about one's personal view about certain qualities of a university, but instead of using them to justify a university's prestige, maybe we can use them wisely to help someone. For example, I visisted the Princeton chat forum not long ago, and after reading several posts I had a good idea about the university's political reputation (not sure which ones but I will be sure to check again) I decided to add Princeton University to my list. I know we do the same here in the Harvard forum, but I think can make it a little better by not debating this much over which college is #1 or "better" than others according to different point of views.

However, once thing is for certain: it seems like the majority of you have great knowledge of many prestigious institutions and want to apply to those places. There's not a whole lot of high school students out there who did as much research / thinking as you, and the country needs scholars like you who have such a strong sense of idea in receiving an education. So be proud of yourselves and let's use our knowledge for a more meaningful purpose! :)

well said LegendoftheWarrior

Thanks, radial268. Are you applying to Harvard as well?

This thread has outlived it's usefulness.
