Does the Peer Rec need to be mailed on/by Jan. 1?

Or can it be sent later?

Also, can it be typed?

By January 1st to be safe. US Post office is closed New Year's day It can be typed.

Yup, but handwritten gives it more of a personal touch. And I suggest you take your time. As Michele Hernandez noted in one of her books, it takes weeks (?) to process all the mail that comes in, so if it is a few days late, it won't be missed.

mine was typed.

Man, I wouldn't send anything handwritten. Why make it any harder on the adcoms?

Slightly related, my post office got stupid and sent me back the peer rec I wrote for my friend (and mailed on December 28) two days ago, saying the address was wrong. I check it again, and it was MOST DEFINITELY right. Anyway, I resent it, along with a note explaining why the rec was late. This won't hurt the person I wrote the rec for, will it? He doesn't even know it happened... I don't want to stress him out over it.
