How important is the SAT writing section to top colleges? Do most schools just consider CR+M?
If your lowest score is in writing, but otherwise your math and reading scores are good, should you be worried?
Thanks

Top schools consider writing and some not top schools as well. For scholarships math+cr will be considered.
You can check the Common Data Set to see which schools report W ranges; doing so would indicate that a school probably considers W.
@marvin100 I really want to go to NYU stern, and they do not put W in their data set, however NYU CAS does put W in. Does that indicate that Stern doesn’t really care about writing ?
I wouldn’t be certain, but yeah, it might mean that.

I know Georgetown doesn’t even accept writing scores. I think it’s pretty individualized, but M + CR are the top two for sure.
Of course, you don’t want your writing score to suffer and you should try your hardest because schools are going to be gauging the “out of 2400” mindset. However, the most important scores are the critical reading and math portions. Those are what are going to matter the most when it comes to getting scholarships and recognition, honors college admissions, etc.
@cameraphone Yeah of course I would like to have all three sections be satisfactory, but it so happens that my M+CR are decent, but my Writing is poor. I don’t really have time to retake.
