Does the School of International Service have the same admissions requirement..?

as the other schools at American University?

I AM REALLY CONFUSED!

i keep seeing people talking about the prestige of the SIS school and how its top on the charts.

does it have the same admission requirements as in the same acceptance of the School of Communication and School of International affairs? even College of Arts and sciences?

i really need to know because im applying ED and i dont want to apply there knowing i won’t get in.

Kingsta,

If any of the AU admissions reps lurk on this site, my guess is that they would not admit you because you keep asking the same question.

Applying to college, especially ED, certainly causes anxiety. But posting the same question several times in a row won’t help…especially as none of us are reviewing your file. Why don’t you spend some time on the AU website learning about the issues that are most important to you? And if you have a question that isn’t answered anywhere on the website, then contact your admissions rep with your question. Don’t ask a question that is easily found on the website or you will give the impression that you did not do your homework on AU.

sorry im just REALLy nervous. im worried that i won’t get in and my whole life is going to be ruined.
as far as i know i wrote this post, the AU parents thread twice, and one post asking for chances to it.

im just really curious because one of the tour guides started telling us that she didnt get into SIS because it was competitive. i wasn’t sure if she meant as a declared major or something. As far as i learned was that you apply to American as general and dont declar school/major till sophomore year. Is that true?

if you were in my situation, you would understand how much applying ED can matter if you have pretty bad stats like i did.

Here is a cut and paste directly from page 3 of the instructions for the AU undergraduate application. Please make sure to read the very last sentence:

Indicating Your Choice of Major
Please refer to the chart on page 10 of the application for all undergraduate
majors offered. You may also select an intended minor at
this time if you wish. Please note: Preprofessional emphases (e.g.,
prelaw, premed) are not majors. These are advising tracks for students
who plan to enter these fields at the graduate level. If you have an
interest in a preprofessional program, please indicate this in the box
on the application for Career Goal. Many freshmen enter AU unsure
about what degree to pursue. If you are unsure, we encourage you to
apply as “undecided.” You will have approximately two years to
declare a major. Your choice of major will not affect the admissions
decision.

If you still don’t believe me, follow this link to find the above quote:
http://american.edu/admissions/pdf/upload/undergraduate_application.pdf

I don’t know what the tour guide was talking about. You simply declare a major at AU. There’s no special application or competitive process to endure - you just declare your major. You can declare it on your application, or anytime during your freshman and sophomore years.

PS - Take a deep breath. Your whole life will not be ruined if you don’t get into AU. It’s a great school, but it’s not the be all, end all of colleges.

jckazoo, THANK YOU SO MUCH! i really really really appreciate that! thats what i was looking for but couldn’t find it anywhere!

i am so happy for that reason because usually other schools tell you to apply to the specific school you are applying to and this makes me so much more calm than i was before.

From SIS website:

BA in International Studies

Admission to the Program

Candidates for admission to the school must present evidence of excellent personal and academic qualifications. To be considered for freshman admission, an applicant should have earned at least a B average in secondary school. Cultural factors are considered in evaluating transcript and examination results. Other factors taken into account are leadership qualities, character, and personal interest. Students from other regionally-accredited collegiate institutions, and students in other programs at American University who have completed the freshman year, should maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) to be considered for transfer to the school.

AU is looking for qualified applicants. If you really want to apply ED and financial/merit aid is not an issue, and there’s no other school where you think you have a better shot at being accepted ED, then apply.
You’ll be accepted, deferred or denied. If denied, at least you’ll have an idea realistically of what schools you can apply to and get accepted.
Good luck and keep us posted!

thanks hello5!

and yeah i have a B average overall from all three years so i guess i could probably make it.

All my other credentials(SATs, SAT II’s, extra curr., community service) are awesome so im sure they will notice that as well.
