<p>So today I had the college discussion with my parents, and we were set to visit Brown next week. The colleges that I put high emphasis on are Brown, NYU, and William and Mary. Since I want to go to medical school afterwords, does it really matter of which college i went to? Would medical schools favor me more if I went to Brown as opposed to a state school?</p>

<p>All three of your schools have an excellent track record of getting students to med school. Each has a much different environment and you should focus on which is best for you.</p>

<p>Yes it does matter. But, the differences must be a lot larger than most people think. Going to Harvard won’t be a very big boost over a really good flagship public (if even at all, depending on the medical school’s view of each school), but going to a top school will definitely be a boost over someone who went to a branch public, like UT El Paso or UT San Antonio, something like that.</p>
<p>However, if your GPA isn’t good enough to be equal to or greater than theirs, then they couldn’t care less where you went, because the GPA says they did better than you.</p>
<p>So yes, it can matter, but in the grand scheme of things, really not all that much.</p>
