Does the Word Limit Hold True?

So I finally submitted the Cornell application and everything else on the common app with weight lifted off of my shoulders (at least for this college). Then I just realized something about word length for the main essay: it says 250-500 words! How could I have missed this?! For my short answer/supplement essay I saw the limit with clear eyes and held true to them, but my eyes slipped for the main essay!

Call me paranoid, but the essay is 516 words. I had my English teacher read it weeks ago, and she gave me a 97 for it (as if it was a real grade, and I edited the parts she corrected later). I felt it was really strong, and I proved my point, but now that I submitted my application, I'm not exactly sure if I did this right.

So all in all, do colleges follow a strict guideline for these rules? Do they judge by you going over a little? Could anyone please clear this up for me? I'm not freaking out or anything (Cornell is my high standards school anyways, I have good fallback schools), but I was just wondering, because I really do want to go to Cornell in the future.

Sorry for the double post, but there’s another dilemma I’m having that is a little long to edit.

Okay, so I submitted my application. Done. I previewed it before submission, and it had everything. I submit it, and I check the application, and everything is locked, which I knew it would. I was just looking over it electronically rather than through a pdf. Everything looked dandy.

I look at it a random day (today), and I see the main essay section, which doesn’t have a file uploaded anymore. It used to have the “Upload Document, View Document, Delete Document” buttons, but now it just has the “Upload Document”. My application section started saying “Downloaded [insert date here]” instead of “Submitted [insert date here]” when it occurred. Is that why only the “Upload Document” is there? My supplement still says “Submitted [insert date here]”, and it has the three buttons for the essay.

What is happening? Is my application screwed up or what D:?

Now I’m EXTREMELY worried.
