My high school requires that the common application needs to be submitted a month before the college's deadline so that the counselors have time to upload the transcript through Naviance. They claim that they cannot upload the transcript until the application is submitted (is this true?) as the reason for this policy. Does anyone else's school also have this requirement and, if so, does this include just the common application, or does the writing supplement need to be submitted as well?

I know that most schools will have very different policies, and I'm contacting my counselor just to make sure, but I thought I might see what collective wisdom CC had on this topic.

Ah, Naviance is so annoying.
My school says the same thing, but they require apps to be submitted about half a month earlier instead of a month. They also claim it takes about 3-5 days for them to “process” your transcript and send it out to schools you’re applying to.

As far as I know, it’s true that they can’t upload the transcript until the application is submitted, but at least for my school, this is a load of bull and all the counselors know it. Honestly, for us at least, students just need to check on Naviance that they’ve submitted their app without actually having submitted in actuality to spur the counselors into action. In fact, during an appointment I had with my CG counselor, she checked it off right in front of my face for me after I expressed my worries that my counselor might not send in her part on time if I sent my app in after the “half a month earlier” deadline.

Like I said though, I suppose this varies for different schools. Perhaps your school actually upholds the whole “can’t upload the transcript until the application is submitted” thing. I know for my school it’s more of a technicality with a loophole that most people probably know about already. I don’t think anyone at my school, students or staff, is all too fond of Naviance (it’s a new district requirement for us I believe). I believe the requirement refers to both the Common App and the writing supplement as well, but I could be wrong… not that it honestly matters in my situation at least.

Edit: I just realized for all the bumbling commentary I just spouted, almost none of it pertains to your main question, which I’m assuming if the title of this thread. Aha, oops.
