Does this Activity Count as Work Experience or an Extracurricular Activity?

<p>I had 6 ECs on my Common App and I'm trying to keep all of them on my UC app. One of my ECs was a free educational summer camp comprised of lectures and activities. You got paid based on how well you did in the activities. Although it was theoretically possible to not earn any money at all, everyone earned something. Could I list this under Work Experience instead to save room? Or is it really an EC?</p>

<p>For reference, here is the UC definition of Work Experience: "Add and briefly describe your paid employment beginning in ninth grade. Examples: Academy of Science paid internship, summer lifeguard, restaurant hostess." Is my camp comparable to a paid internship?</p>

<p>Here is the UC definition of Extracurricular Activity: "Add and briefly describe any extracurricular activities in which you have participated beginning in ninth grade. Examples: team captain of varsity soccer team, student body president, school yearbook editor, first chair of high school symphony orchestra, lead actor of high school play, JROTC Leadership Education Training."</p>

<p>Sounds like an EC to me. For it to be a job, you would have had to be helping run the camp, rather than being an attendee. I wouldn’t count it as paid work experience unless you had a salary or an hourly wage.</p>
