Our school is so dumb... They don't use weighted grades to rank the students. This means that someone who takes no honors/ap courses with a 4.0 gpa is the same rank as someone who took max honors and ap courses and still getting straight A's. Would this affect my chances?

My school ranks students by unweighted grades. I think most schools don't use weighted grades. I'm not sure. I could be wrong.

Perhaps you should contact UCLA undergrad admissions about it. I know that on the application, you list all the classes that you take throughout high school, then GPA's pretty important too.

don't worry about it, my school does not use weighted GPA (it's a district wide policy - my GPA was about 3.93 unweighted and 4.36 or so weighted - my rank was abround 16 out of a class of 675 or so), but i was still able to get into many top schools , top 3 UC's + UCI regents + davis regents, waitlist stanford, cornell and columbia. Keep it as high as you can and work hard in your other areas.

doesn't matter

nope, doesnt matter.

if i recall correctly, UC's dont look at class rankings

I that that they do, at the least in this way- they know who's in the top 4% through ELC, and they know who's in the top 10% or so (nominated but not receving ELC).

Yeah I think they do look at class rankings. They say that people in ELC are guareenteed a spot to one of the UC of their choices. I dunnno if that's true though.

They say a UC, not necessarily of one's choice.
