I was born in Cuba and learned English upon moving to the US at age 12 (end of 6th grade)? I don’t know whether or not that counts as a hook, and have other qualifications that may better suffice as far as the whole the whole “hook thing” goes. (i started an association to support and encourage Latina involvement in STEM fields). SO, is it mentionable?
