I'm on financial aid for my high school., which means I have to work in the maintainence crew during the summer. The school "pays" us $500, but that money goes directly to our tuition. Basically, it's like a high school version of work-study. Technically, we are getting paid, so does this count as a job?

For the purpose of college admissions, having a job is less about getting paid and more about being in a position where you’re responsible for performing a certain task. Therefore, this is a job.

Also, when you’re discussing your work history for job applications, scholarship applications, or anything else, you should include substantial unpaid/volunteer work unless you’re instructed otherwise.
