I am an avid mountine climber, couple months ago I arrived at the top of Aconcagua (Argentina), which is almost 7000m tall. So does this count as an significant EC for my college admission?

Might be good essay fodder.

I’d say so. Mountain climbing is pretty impressive.

Said mountain seems to be the tallest in the Americas, certainly no run-of-the-mill feat. If an application has a space for “accomplishments” I’d definitely include it, although I’m not sure if it could really be classified as an EC. Might be wise to specify it’s the tallest mountain outside of Asia, and not just its name or height, as neither are immediately recognizable as to the scale of the accomplishment.

Like Kristina said, good essay topic too.

ECs can include hobbies. I’d say that’s a very strong EC. Congratulations on your achievement!

Editing to add: Some schools love to feature these types of accomplishments in their admitted class. I remember reading on some college’s website about a newly admitted student who was a barrel racer in rodeos. See Carleton’s class profile for some of the student accomplishments they featured: [Carleton College: Admissions: Class of 2011: Highlights](http://apps.carleton.edu/admissions/stulife/class_of_2011_profile/class_of_2011_highlights/)

I might be totally wrong, but mountain climbing sounds like a sport to me, or at least a significant physical activity. If you can count other sports, I don’t see why not mountain climbing. Also, congratulations!

what a baller. mountain climbing is definitely a good EC.

If you spend a good amount of time on it, it’s an EC. (And a pretty damn good one, at that.)

Definitely :)

I’m huffing and puffing… but I won’t give in. “Only 7000m more to go”, I say to myself.

LOL

yea, its a truly unique ec and is also a good essay topic.
