Does this count towards legacy at Penn?

Quick question for anyone that knows, my grandfather attended wharton at UPenn and achieved a degree, however he went at night and was sponsored by his company or something along those lines so is definately not a traditional alum. Could I still put down that I have a grandparent that attended the university in the common app? Technically this would in no way be a false statement, but if it’s somewhere hidden in their guidelines I don’t want to end up having “lied” on my application.

Anyone have any idea?

You can put it down, but many schools regard you as a legacy only if a parent attended the school.

I think that at Penn legacy includes grandparents who graduated from any school but I’m not certain. You need to do some research and find out for sure. If unsure, you can contact Penn admissions. Find out exactly what degree he earned at Penn before contacting admissions.

Yes. Per Eric Furda, Dean of Admissions:

FYI, the legacy hook carries weight for ED,only, in general.
